Charlie Abel comes from a big rugby family, one of six boys, all of whom play rugby at some level.
His father, Tony, is a Brumbies stalwart and runs the club’s game day
operations. Charlie was on the fringes of the Waratahs squads in recent seasons.
The front rower showed promise in the Shute Shield for Gordon and stepped up in
the National Rugby Championship with Sydney City. Abel made his Super Rugby AU
debut for the Rebels against the Reds in 2020, joining brothers Robbie and Jacob in
the professional ranks.
Outside of rugby, Abel is a very proud husband to Logan and dad to son Hikairo and
daughter Reikura.
Abel was a standout for the Giltinis in their run to the title, playing strongly on both
sides of the scrum and for more minutes than any other prop in 2021. He will be one
of the leaders in the front-row in his second season at the club.
